June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, and the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter is taking this time to educate the public about the severity of Alzheimer's disease and to support those affected by it.According to the association, 11.6% of adults age 65 and older in Pennsylvania are diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease as of this year.More than 4,100 Pennsylvanians have died because of the disease since 2021.

Susquehanna Valley counties by percentage of people age 65 and older with Alzheimer's Disease:Lancaster – 11.5%Lebanon – 11.2%York – 10.7%Dauphin – 11.6%Cumberland – 10.9%Franklin – 11.1%Mifflin – 11.2%Juniata – 10.9%Adams – 10.4%Perry – 9.5%The association says to watch out for early warning signs, including difficulty completing familiar tasks, memory loss and confusion with time and place.Those who notice these symptoms should schedule an appointment with a doctor as soon as possible.
